Hunter 26 Boat has been sold - Currently boatless :(
I recently completed the re-building project of my 1994 H26 trailer which I purchased as a boat/trailer package a few months ago. I posted the project in the picture section so that anyone thinking of doing the same could get an idea of what was involved. I hope it will be of use to others. Now I can't wait to get on the water and use the boat! See ya there! -Pat

No time!

Thank You! No I have not had time to take it out yet. I knew this year would be the "fixing" year since I was too busy and so much to tinker with on the trailer and boat. I'm really anxious for the spring to come! I still have a list of "to do's" before I can take it out. Among other things I have to figure out the whole jib thing. It seems the roller furling one the boat came with is too large for the set-up. I've read a few posts on others having a similar issue, but haven't decided on a solution yet. The attached picture shows the jib fully sheeted as tight as it will go. Hardly a flat sail. Probably will not allow for very close to the wind sailing. There is another jib in a bag which will require a forestay which I need to compare to this one. Perhaps that one is the original. We'll see... Happy sailing! -Pat

A couple of things…

Can’t tell from the picture for sure, but is the forestay tight? It shouldn’t have much of a bend, if at all. If it does, tighten the side stays per suggested posts (see archives). Secondly, you mentioned another jib. Keep in mind the H26260 is a main driven boat. If the headsail is anything above 100% - the boat will be overpowered and the rigging location will not match the sail size. Which brings me to… Thirdly, (I know, I said a couple of things), the H26 has a single point on the deck for the jib sheet to block through. Certainly a limitation. It doesn’t pull the jib down enough when close to the wind – not far enough outboard to run with the wind. A happy medium was chosen for it’s attachment. That’s OK in most points of sail, but improvements can be made. I’m planning to install a track for the jib block before next year. Will post pictures and note any improvements when I’ve completed the project.

Hose question

Pat, Nicely done. When you had your tongue extension hose made, what pressure rating is the hose good for and what specifically is the material the hose is made from? I am in the process of doing many of the things to my 23.5 trailer as you are doing. Thanks in advance. Jonathan

Hose pressure

Jonathan, I'll have to call the shop and find the info. on the material used. As far as the pressure, I'll check this week next time I go to the boat which is currently in storage. I'm fairly certain there are specs written right on the hose. I'll let you know shortly. I had it made at a hydraulic shop. The one thing you want to make sure you consider are your fittings. I got caught on that one and had to retrofit a bit. But, most good shops should have all the fittings you would need. Just make sure you discuss what you are trying to do and make sure they know what the intended end result should be. I'm sure you have shops near you, but I've included the link to the one I used if it can be of help to you. Talk with you soon. Happy sailing! -Pat
