H26 Roller Furler issues

Ever since Covid that sailing was not permitted in Panama its been one issue aftwr another with my boat.
Once again I have to I guess step the mast.
But do I?

Can I get the furler down to inspect the swivel without lowering the mast?

When I get to the swivel is there a lubrication solution?

It is royal pain in the butt working on a boat in this part of the world in the heat and humidity.

No lubrication is used. Flush with fresh water.
You do not have to lower the mast if you can climb the mast, otherwise you will have to lower the mast since as soon as you disconnect the forstay pin the mast will fall backwards.

Can you identify? Yes I know I would have it rigged tolowere if I detach the furler that acts as a stay... The coast of Panama is so hot and humid to work in..that's why I first am looking at an alternative to fixing the maddening problem. But it looks like what will be will be. I will tey flushing the swivel if I can find a way to reach it without stepping the mast...out on water their is a breeze but on land it torcher working at my age

My plan based on your advice is to get as high as I can with a pressure hose to squirt that swivel. From here at my house it is hard to say what is available that will do the trick. I have a 2500 RAM pickup. Maybe a ladder in the bed will work.. Then too moving the boat near a building on land.

It is a CDI FF2 system. Look under boat information and look at the hunter 260 downloads. There you will find the manual on your furling system. M

1. Untie the line from the.cleat and tie a messenger line to the internal halyard before letting the jib down.
2. Lower the jib down
3, lift up the grey plastic extrusion and remove the
clevis pin located in the upper portion of the
Furling drum as seen in the first posted photo
4. Lift up drum to expose the bottom of your
Furling drum

With the cdi flex furler there is no swivel at the top of the mast. What is the nature of the problem you’re having with the unit? If the trouble is raising the foresail it could be the black plastic piece at the top of the furler is fouled with debris of some type. If you can direct a stream of water at the top while you pull the halyard back and forth you may be able to clear the debris. (Cdi does now make a top piece with a sheave as an optional part - original is just a tubular hole in the plastic). Hard raising/lowering can also be caused by debris in the track in the foil that the captive ferrule rides in as part of the integrated halyard.

if it’s an issue with being able to furl the sail you could try the same technique while spinning the drum by hand. The furler foil is simply slipped over the forstay - debris and critters can get in this but I would expect it to clear with use. (also try the methods listed by Dave to clean the drum area.)

Yesterday I went to work on the problem. I took my 2001 pickup with the rigging to lower/stepping the mast. Again a bruttle hot and humid day on the Panama coast. If only I was there to go sailing instead of this. First was to test the fuler, I had binoculars with me to see if I could see what it was. The binouclars fogged up from the AC in the truck. While I waited for them to warm up I started testing the furler. Pulling the sheet it unfurles WITHOUT any line wrapping around it? It then dawned on me. The young man I had on board had fauled the haylard the I use to pull the sock up to cover the sail. Maybe it was lust one time at the top or part way wrapped around. This continues to wrap around as the sail was unfurlered. I don't have a problem folks only my own supidity in play although I did have another prfessional trice ocean crossing sailor with me.. Thanks for your support
