I own a 1997 Hunter 26 and I am considering having a furling system installed, equipped with a 150% genoa. 1-Has the boat been designed to accept such a mechanism? 2-If so, how an where do you suggest we install the sheet rails? Your comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Furling 150

Since there is no backstay, you have a larger mainsail as a result. Simply put, you have alot of sail already on the boat and I do not recommend a 150% furling genoa. You will be overpowered putting you in an unsafe situation. Also, the sheets would have to be run ouside the shrouds thus you could not tack as close into the wind. Putting genoa tracks on the deck would also mean drilling through the headliner which would make installation allot harder. In the years I have sold these boats, never once have I put a 150% furling genoa on since I do not feel there is a need based on experience. If you do not have roller furling, I strongly recommend it and may I suggest the CDI system. You will need to specify this is a Hunter 26 and not a 260. As for the sail, youdo not need to have it cut if that is asked of you by the sail loft. If you have any further questions, email me at davecondon@mindspring.com Craxy Dave
