Has anybody converted their H26 from tiller to wheel? Is this a DIY project or should I get a professional? If I do it myself can you give me some tips? Thanks!

wheel

i dont think there are any professionals in the marine industry. i was a general contractor before i retired. that industry was going to hell in 1995. i think this industry is worse. years ago when you had nothing you bought a case of beer and a brush and some paint and you were a painting contractor but there were always a few good ones.

This has been talked about several times. There are good treads on this there. I bought a used 1997 H26 last year that the previous owner had done a conversion on. I love it!! If you contact EDSON, they are good to work with on the phone and can probably fix you up with the parts. It would probably run you $800 plus to do it. Good luck.

I am interested in doing these same conversion. I have spoken with Edson and think I would like to. Have you done this yet? Where are you located? Jim

wheel steering

When I first saw the initial plans for wheel steering, I saw several itemms that I did not like. The wheel was too far foward, wheel to high, no helmans seat, and so forth. Originally, the edson wheel steering was the push pull type. Since then, they have gone to the cable system which is better. As I understand, the person who built the riser pad and the insert for the transom is no longer making them. Therefore, there will be alot of glass wrk on your part. What I did was different. First I cut the back portion of the floor foot rest and relaid a new floor while strenthing the underside. This allowed for the wheel to be brought back and at the correct heigth. I then took the stern rail and had it modified in order to add a fold a-way seat. It was intensive work but it was worth it. The new 260 was a welcome sight as for the new steering wsystem Crazy Dave Condon

You sure?

Are you sure that you want to give up the cockpit space. The amount of room in the cockpit of my H26 is one of the best things it has going for it - I think.
