Hunter 26 Lake Wallenpaupack PA
Came across this capsized Hunter 26 while at the fuel dock on Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania Saturday. Was told the boat is owned by a local camp (lots of day camps in the area) and it went over on Friday August 6th. I don't believe there were any injuries, thank God.

My guess is no one flooded the ballast tank.

They were making efforts to recover the boat but at end of day were unsuccessful.

Ron

PS - I'm no longer active here but I used to have an H26 of my own which I sailed on Lake Hopatcong and Barnegat Bay in NJ and ultimately here on Lake Wallenpaupack in PA.

Wow. Tough to right because the ballast tank is probably still empty! Can it be filled from the outside?

PWC users and power boaters jump on board and turn the key zooming away without instruction straight toward disaster all the time(as most sailors have observed). When somebody boards a sailboat without a briefing on the nuances of the vessel(like fill the ballast and a hundred other things) then it'll go badly.

The way it's laying, the ballast is clearly full of air. There's no way to fill the ballast while it's on its side. And it'd never stand upright with the cabin full of water and the tank full of air. They'd need to raise the mast to horizontal and beach the boat on its side, then while pumping the cabin roll it upright. That boats interior is pretty much trash now. What a waste.

Also glad nobody was hurt.

Can you tell me what marina that is?

I put my 260 in at Wallenpaupack from time to time and, interestingly for a small remote lake, there is at least one other 260 there (I'm told there is also a 240 but I've never seen it)

Um...I'd take the mast off where she lays, then fill the cabin with inflatables. Should give you enough bouancy to tip/pull the boat back over. What I can't figure out is how you do this at the dock!

I think it was Lighthouse Harbor Marina.

As far as other Hunter water ballasted boats on the lake there are several. I'd guess at least five or six.
