Re: Source of Rudder Head Replacement

Thanks for reply. I have tried to contact him thru ebay. Did you not like aluminum replacement? What did he charge?

Re: Source of Rudder Head Replacement

The replacement was exactly like the original. The suplier did an excellent job for about $85. If any part of the aluminum plates continueously stay below water, they may corrode. I don't know if this is just in salt water or not. For about $40 more and 10 pounds more weight, I coulda had stainless steel. That's what I would have done differently. Brian

Re: Source of Rudder Head Replacement

If I remember correctly, I paid about $85 for the pair of replacement aluminum plates. Then, I locally bought some red rubber gasket material and the nylon hardware (spacers, rollers, bushings) from Hunter. I completely rebuilt the rudder head. I originally had to replace the rudder head because they corroded severely and detatched from the pintle at the lower bolts. After I replaced the heads, they still were 2 inches below waterline and after 2 years, starting corroding again The outboad motor paint I used didn't last but a year. If I had stainless steel, I would likely have left them unpainted. I think I have have since solved most of the problem by re-ballasting my boat so the rudder head is entirely out of the salt water. Water still sloshes on them from wave action. I think my dock has stay current issues. I can't completely keep the aluminum plates dry. I also intend on adding a zinc to the lower head. I'll post the info if the supplier contacts me. BrianW
