Well, I finshed the trailer for my H26.5 yesterday. I have yet to use it to launch, although I did take it to the lake for a dry(wet) run without the boat to check the ramp and verify if the 20' extension will do the job. I braught the boat home (250 miles) with it on June 2, all went well, save four screws used to install marker lights on the forward side of the fenders. I had to remove them since they made contact with the tires when going over bumps. Launch is planned for this week as weather permits. The trailer is estimated to weight #1000, not to bad for a #4400 boat. With the boat in the drive way we have been working down the list of improvements. The interior got two coats of varnish and two coats of white paint on the wood under cushions. The hull got a Interlux 2000 barrier coat and VC-17 antifouling. A comment I have on the 2000, it is better then the VC-Tar for trailerable applications since it is much harder. I had to add a mast tabernackle, since this boat was not primarly intended for trailering. A lifting motor mount was fitted. Also added was a bellows type feed through for the shift and throttle cables, this allows greater freedom of movement of the cables as the motor is lifted and tilted. I made an angled spacer block to attach the motor mount, this mintained the 11" lift. If you use the angle ajustment of the mount you loose up to 4" of lift! The last piece to be instlled is the Hood SL 700 roller furling unit, hope to get that done tody. If anyone is interested in any of the work I have done to the boat or in the trailer feel free to e-mail me. Good sailing! Eric

26.5 how to questions

Hi Eric, Harriet and I have just purchased a 1987 Hunter 26.5 and plan to make many of the changes you briefly outlined in your posting this coming fall and spring. You invited interested persons to email you with questions or comments, but we don't know how to do that since no email address showed up in the forum. How can we get in touch? Or is it more appropriate to carry on our discussion in this forum?
