I know that there is lots of information in the archive about dropping the centerboard to replace the uphaul line when the boat is out of the water. I am curious if anyone has replaced this line while in the water?
Is it possible to access and release the end of the line with the centerboard down and to tie a tracer line to it in order to pull a new line through? I'm having the bottom cleaned once a month and I could ask the diver to help make the replacement if it is accessible.

I don't know anyone that has tried this. Pat Adam's article on the line repalcement indicates to me that this is not an easy task on the hard. In theory it might work, why not give it a go and tell us how it works out?

I'll ask the diver to look at it and see if he can access where the line attaches. When I look at the drawing in the owner manual, it looks like the attachment is right at the level of the slot opening for the centerboard, so it looks possible but marginal, at least on paper.

Did you ever send a diver to look and see if he/she could access where the uphaul attaches to the centerboard. I'll need to replace this soon enough on my '95 H26, and would be interested in hearing if this would be a viable option

Yes, when he cleaned the boat last month I asked him to check it out. I must have not given him a clear enough description of what I needed because he reported back that he wasn't sure what he was supposed to be looking for. I think that he expected to see a line going to the end of the keel like a swing keel Macgregor. I sent him a diagram from the manual and he promised to look at it again. I'm going to try to be there this time with a line available if it looks like it willl work.

Disappointing...

The diver who cleaned my boat this morning said the he couldn't see the hole where the uphaul line is attached, nor could he get his hand up far enough to even feel anything. I guess that idea is busted.
