H25 furling jib

Hello
In the process to buy 1981 h25, with basic options and 5 Hp Nissan for 4000$ , a good price? In superbe conditions....and well maintained... Now my projects:
I am thinking to add a furling jib, any advices! Model? Price? What about adding Water pressure? Best location for water tank? Bag or solid tank one? Any recommendations beside or adds? Thank you

First, I would question the 5 hp on that boat depending where it is.

The next quetion, why put on a pressurize water system if the use is minimal.

That year was before my time and if this site does not have the manual on line, anyone out there, if you have one, please advise. This boat is a basic boat and not hard to figure out.

CDI makes great furlers for boats in our size range. After many years with hank on jibs, a furler is a 'must have' for me.

I agree with Crazy Dave about the water system. I keep my bow fresh water tank full more for boat balance than for any consumption. While I have a fresh water pump, it isn't permanently installed. I use it once a year to pump out the tank for winter storage. I find manual pumps very handy for this size boat.

Will add the missing manual water pump plus faucet! Any advice to locate parts? Or just the ship store?

I say get the boat (it's a good price), go sailing and see then what you want to change/add/improve. You may find it needs very little after all.

A boat in the water beats ten on the hard. Take my word for it. ;)

+1 on CDI furler which I had on a boat lost in Katrina. Really worked a treat.

On my 23.5 I've taken a cheapskate approach. I rig a jib down haul using an 1/8 inch line run to the jib head and then laced alternately left and right on the side of the jib hanks to a small turning block at the stem head fitting, then aft through a fairlead at the base of forward port stanchion to the cleat adjacent to the port sheet winch. To avoid going on deck when dousing the jib, I simply release the halyard and heave the downhaul until the sail is fully down. I then trim one of the jib sheets tight to keep the jib from going overboard. To help keep the lowered jib aboard, I improvised a simple "net" by running 1/8 inch base lines between the base of the forward stanchion to the base of the pulpit on both port and starboard sides and then "zig-zaging" line between the base line and the lifeline.

This system is not nearly as useful as a proper furler, but for next to no money, a single hander can deal with the jib without leaving the cockpit.

Hello again
Went for a sea trial on my futur 1981 h25, great upwind and light wind! I guess a small boat but with great performance! Easy to go slip and out! I am new to sailing but why bigger? Will not try to go around the world but why not with another boat as an Ericsson (32) next time! 10 years from now:)

Anybody had blisters issues? Should I worry if all repaired by previous owner? ( spend 3000$) again If well repaired no worries? Or just wait 3 years for suprises??? Acetone to dry the blisters! Correct? Thank you

Your boat is 30 years old. Its floating and you like it. Blisters are not worth worrying about. I suggest you take a close look at the standing rigging for broken strands in the shrouds, signs of corrosion where the wire is swaged into end fittings and signs of stress (cracking) on the mast at the spreaders. Thereafter, enjoy your boat...after all many who read this forum can only day dream about sailing at this time of year. For you and me, its the best sailing season.

I use to sail at night on Smith Mountain Lake when it was snowing. I had a deck light on the mast and it was beautiful. Once I saw another boat out and it was the game warden and I shared my coffee with him as he was frozen. Afterwards, I said it is time to go in as the temp was falling very quickly. Later, he bought me coffee and we laughed being the only two on the lake.
