I need to replace the 2 cycle outboard on my H240 (1999). I am thinking about a Honda 9.9 (105 lbs). Will this engine be too heavy to clamp onto the back of my 240? Thanks

My 2000 H240 came with a Yamaha 9.9 that weighed about that. I had the stainless steel mounting brackets reinforced because they were bending a little. Trailered to Maine and back from NY with no problems. I always trailered with the motor mounted and had no issues there either. I'd say go for it, just watch those brackets.
When ever trailering the boat with the motor hung on the back end of that motor bracket, the engine will bounce up and down every time you hit a hole, bump in the road and so forth. Suggest that you tie that motor up by the handle to something on the rear of the boat for example the stanchion of rear or stanchion rails to help eleviate that problem
In additon, max hp suggested on that boat is 8 hp only and this is based on experrience gentlemen due to my involvment with the boat and being the top dealer selling appx. 20 to 25% of that line.

Good comments on engine replacement
I'd like to add support for reduced weight via smaller motor, especially if you sail in protected waters. I sail my 240 on an inland lake, and my Mercury 8 is plenty. Several of my fellow sailors make due with 5 and 6 hp on comparably sized boats. With the 240's configuration, access to the motor is convenient and has enabled me to enjoy the most basic manual set up for ten seasons. I think among the virtues of the 240 are it's simplicity and ease of enjoyment. I've been happiest when I have kept that in mind. Good luck.
