I notice the mast on my Hunter 240 has a bend aft starting just at the spreaders - its just a little, but definitely not straight. Now I am not sure if this is how it should be, a function of bad storage over the winter, or a need for shroud adjustment. If the latter - some advice would be welcomed.

If the mast is bending aft just above the spreaders then this is OK. If the mast bends either to port or starboard above the spreaders then it is not OK. I sight up the mast sail slug slot to check bend.
Your mast bending aft is caused by rig tuning and the bend is quite common. With the B&R rig the tension of the shrouds causes the bend and I had the same set-up on my 95 H26. Most masts also lean rearward and this is called rake. I think the H26 has about 2 to 3 inches of rake but don't take that as the final word on rake. My SJ23 has 7 inches of rake.
Every year I tune my standing rigging with a "Loos Gauge" and recommend this practice to everyone that is serious about sailing.

I am not sure about this, but isn't the main normally cut, for a boat like this, to assume some curvature to the rear?

Thanks for the responses. I was of course referring to an aft bend. In order to lessen this with this rig, I would have to slack off the stay that goes to the base of the spreader ( at the mast) I think?

On the B&R rig if I recall, you will have a stay from the spreader tip downward to near base of the mast which is also something to look at when tensioning as it will cause the mast to bend aft

Hi

I am having the same problem but the bend was in the middle of the mast. I removed the rigging assist poles and this assisted with straining it a little but require more tension on the forestay (need to shorten it). Out of interest what rig tension are you currently running?

I recently purchased a 240 as well, and reading the manual a number of times to figure out what they were talking about, it sounds like the correct amount of mast rake is about 6" to aft measured at the gooseneck. To measure this, just attach something heavy (wrench, plumb bob, etc.) to the main halyard and let it dangle just above the boom. If it is centered on the mast and 6" aft of it, then things are in the right spot. If not, then you will need to adjust the tension on the shrouds to get it there.

Here is the "official" text from the manual:
7. After the rig is centered, set the amount of mast rake to approximately one degree of aft angle. This can be measured by hanging a weight, such as an adjustable wrench from the main halyard shackle and adjusting the halyard so the wrench is suspended immediately above the boom. With the boat level, this wrench when hanging from the main halyard above the gooseneck should be 6
(15cm) from the aft face of the mast. Adjust the forestay turnbuckle as necessary to achieve this position.
