H240 main battery fuse missing

While doing some electrical work on my '98 H240 I noticed there is no main fuse on the battery- I checked the positive wire as far as it was exposed, including inside the flexible plastic conduit. The wiring diagram in the manual indicates a 40 amp fuse should be there- and my battery location and wiring appear original. I plan to add a terminal fuse block (Blue Seas 5191), but was wondering if other 240's were missing this safety device? Will probably go with a 40 amp fuse, but considering dropping to 30 amp due to my limited electric load.

what ever fuse you decide on try hard to fuse it within 7 to 9 inches from the battery post ....if your wire size calls for a 40 amp fuse do that but don't up size the fuse

It has been some time but there should be an inline fuse holder with a 40 amp fuse in it. I found if you look at the wire from the battery going backward on the red wire you should find it stuck behind the cockpit seating possibly in the foam.
