1987 Hunter 23. My tiller rotted away so I tossed what was left of it not expecting to have any trouble finding a replacement. It appears I now need the dimensions of the tiller so one can be made. Does anyone have the dimensions for it or know of where one can be purchased. Hunter customer service recommended I go here for help.

Possible to find a replacement...

In just about any marine store. West Marine, Boater's World, or Boat/US ought to have a replacement that will fit. It should be noted here that the emphasis is on "will fit"- It may not be an EXACT replacement, but it will give you the ability to steer your boat! On our H25, it appears someone replaced the original tiller, but used one that has WAAAAY too much curve in it. We just put a new tiller on today, and are happy with the results. One final note, Be careful when you drill the holes in your new tiller- Make sure you're drilling straight through the wood! I was off by a little for one of the holes, and had to re-drill. You can't tell from the outside, but one of the bolts may not be working as hard as the rest... ;o) --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

The only one listed for a Hunter is for a 22 finished price is about $70. I was thinking of replacing the aluminum pipe I have for a tiller with one of theirs. They do custom tillers if you send the dimensions and a tracing, too late for yours but maybe someone else can help. Maybe Phil can get us a better deal through the store on the web site.

tiller

I had to have a tiller built for my 26.5 and the demensions they needed are as follows. Overall length, thickness at the base, and the amount of rise. I can send you these demensions as I also own a "87 23.5 "its for sale" Expect to pay almost twice what they get for the ready mades, at West Marine anyway. Thats where I had mine made. Make sure when you drill it out you use a drill press. The holes must be perfectly straight
