Hunter 23 Big Pine Key
I am restoring a 1988 Hunter 23. My question is about how the standing wire rigging attaches to the mast. The wire goes into a rectangular plate with a bevel that currently just fits into a similiar size hole in the mast, without any attachment device to hold it in place. At the top of the plate and above the hole in the mast is a small (1/8?) hole. Is this for a rivet or pin to secure the plate and wire in place? Thank you for any reply - sam

Standing rigging

I am not sure I can answer your question because I am not completley sure what it is your seeing . I owned an 89 h23 for 15 years and here is what I remember about the mast and standing rigging . There are or were slots in the mast where the J type swagged on fittings simply slip in .On my boat there was nothing to hold them in place .They would occassionally come out while trailering .There were I think 3 different masts for this boat . If you could take a picture of what it is your talking about I am sure someone here can help you , Mike

Thanks Mike

Thanks for your reply, it sounds like I have the same setup. From what I can tell they just fit in. There are a couple that actually are in the mast without anything to permamently hold them in place. This is my first sailboat and I really appreciate your help - Sam Morris

Rigging

Your welcome. After posting that response to your original questiion I started thinking more about the question . A few years prior to selling the boat I replaced the rigging . When I removed the fittings from the mast there may have been some clear silicone sealent in that area . I think if the fittings were in the mast at the angle they are at when rigged this should not be a problem . Don't know what others might say but it is worth some thought .That stuff is very flexible , Hope you enjoy your boat as much as we did ours , Mike
