Do any H23 owners with shore power have any pictures of the outside plug location and inside breaker box location? I am going to add SP to mine soon as weather permits and would like to do it right the first time. Thanks, Charles

Do you plan to upgrade your electrical panel for AC? Or are you just wanting to wire a battery charger and a couple of outlets. Because of where your DC panel is located I would suggest a separate small Blue Sea panel with a breaker for the AC and maybe two more breakers, one for each outlet. Put it up at eye level someplace.

Where ever you place the breaker it just has to be accessible for the wiring. Location of the shore power plug can be anywhere. It just depends upon how much wire and the effort to route it. One of the best mods to my H37C was a shorepower plug in the anchor locker. It took 40 feet of wire under the toerail to get back to the inverter/charger. Well worth the cost since I always dock bow in. The usual place is the starboard aft coaming. I also have the original there.

Ed, Thanks for your reply. I have no shore power at all right now. I just run my power cord in thru the hatch to charge my batteries. I will run a circut forward for a Marineaire unit in the forward hatch and then a single circut aft for the battery charger/ coffee pot. I will look aboard my friends boats to come up with breaker box mounting locations. My slips shore power is located on my starboard side docked bow in so that seems like the best location. Thanks and I will check out the blue sea panel. Charles

Don't think any 23s came with shore power and I'd certainly think twice about mounting it forward near the bow. Most boats of any length with shorepower inlet mount them to the rear to avoid getting water over the bow in them. Just looked up the "Mfg. Pictures" in the "Boat Info." tab and I'd consider mounting the inlet at the very stern of the boat, port side, high up near the cockpit. PORT side looks to have a large locker to work with and is also the side where you galley is. Electric panel Ed mentioned could be mounted on galley wall. I guess anchor locker would work, but make sure to use the waterproof screw down cap style w/LOTS of sealant. Good luck with your project.

In my marina almost every boat is bow-in with the shore power outlet somewhere in the stern. We just buy extra long shore power cords and run them under the finger piers.

My dealer installed mine in the cockpit, just forward of the swim ladder. Only about 2' of cord is exposed from the end of the finger pier to the outlet. Easy to reach and connect from the walk through stern on the H260. The AC panel is on the aft bulkhead of the galley. That makes for easy maintenance since all the cables are inside the galley storage area.

Not sure why there is any concern about a bow mounted shorepower plug. I have had the bow buried but the shorepower cable was not attached. The plug has a sealed cover but even if it did not what could happen? There is no power there, the inverter will not put power to the shorepower plugs. Just wondering if there is something new to worry about.

As for its value I would not be without it. Many times I have visited places where my 50-footer would not reach a shorepower outlet from the aft end of the boat. And I always hated walking on it or hanging it from the lifelines. I guess if you only ever just used your own slip it would not be a problem.

Shore power in the bow

In our Hunter 26 I put our shore power connection in the bow because we are almost always bow-in when connecting to shore power and we don't have the cord underfoot or tripping us in the stern. After the worst weather sailing, I have never had more than a couple of drops when I open the cover. I've forgotten to close it a few times and by the time we are ready to hook up the connections are already dry. From the bow it's easy to run the line below the anchor locker, under the seats and under the galley sink.

I believe ABYC says that the shorepower has to be within 10' of the main breaker panel, and in an out of the weather location aboard...if those kinds of things are important to you. I am not sure the pic of the bow mounted install is up to ABYC. So, If you require a survey for insurance or other reasons on a regular basis, you may want to talk with a surveyor so that your install does not preclude insurance or resale....
