While working on the area around my mast, I realized the wood core was still wet. I tried to dry it out last year by drilling a series of holes and forcing acetone in, which I'm not sure did much.

I will now be very cautios of what I mount close to the mast!

You sure have that poor little boat all chopped up! Can't wait to see what it looks like once you are all done.

I would suggest cutting out the wet area of wood only and re insert Marine ply into the area and reglass. For anyone who can do what you do, you have experience. The top of the compression plate actually takes the load. When regeling, mask off the area where it starts to curve downward and to the back behind the hinges to shade in the different color of white as you will never really match white gel but can "blend" it in.

At least it looks like Hunter used an actual "solid" piece of plywood here. From my experience they used scraps arranged like a parquet floor for the side deck core, which after having tried what you initially did, found out that because of this contruction method you can not really dry it out that way because the wood is discontinuous.

Thanks ! A few years ago I painted the deck with some topside alkalyd paint. It did ok, so I will repaint again. I would love to use polyeuethane over the alkalyd but hink there may be adhesion issues. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I've learned a ton about the construction of these boats by your posts. Thanks! Hope she treats you well when you're all finished!

Cut two pieces of 3/4" plywood since the whole are was not rotted. Dried it out for a good two weeks. We had some very dry days in tampa so I got lucky.

I painted the new plywood piece with fiberglass resin and then used west expoxy that comes in the tube, premixed and prethickened. Put a 60lb bag of salt on each area. Its getting there! Real freaked out about drilling this area again, but I will have to.
