Has anyone made any modifications to the H23 forestay / turnbuckle setup? This was the firstyear I had the boat in the water and luckily only had to raise and lower the mast once for the season. All went well except for tightening and loosening the forestay turnbuckle in the anchor well. Not only that but trying to slip in (or remove) the cotter pins (or rings) in the cramped quaters is also interesting. Just planning for next season.

Jib halyard

Use the jib halyard to hold it an place. Hook the jib halyard to the snap shackle for the jib and tighten it with the winch. This will allow you to tighten and loosen the turnbuckle with out much if any pressure on it and it is easier to install the forstay pin. Cliff

Not a great deal of help but......

If you sub a captive pin horseshoe shackle for the lower turnbuckle pin it helps a little. Just use a shackle with pin diameter the same as that used on the turnbuckle. You then don’t need a cotter pin or rings, just tighten the shackle pin in the shackle. A small line on the shackle also keeps it from dropping accidentally into the well. Greg
