H23 Faucet not drawing water

I have a puzzling problem with the faucet on my H23. It was not pumping water, so I removed it and placed it into a glass of water to test it. The faucet pumped fine until the water level drops to about an inch from the bottom of the glass and then it stops working. I assume that this means the faucet needs to be primed and only works if the tubing is full of water. That’s exactly the problem. Since the water tank is below the level of the facet intake and the pump will not draw up the water through the empty tubing, how does one get the faucet to work properly?

Water Faucets

Complaints about the hand pumps are common. Some people have tried rebuilding the pumps but IMHO you are wasting your time. I first tried replacing the hand pumps with ones from Fynspray and they were better, but I still had problems with priming and leaks in the water lines. Using the experience of others, I installed a pressurized water system. This involved replacing the water lines, installing a pump and inline filters, new faucets and adding an access hole to the tank. I got all the fittings and tubing from Home depot and the shurflow pump from West Marine. The whole project went together in a day. Other H260 owners have added a accumulator pump but I found it was not necessary. Go to this link for more:http://h260.com/water/water.html

a fix

I have a Hunter 240 and have had similar problems. The pump has some o-rings inside the unit. O-rings lose their ability to seal and can be replaced. Any good plumbing house can help. One thing you might add to the water line is a check valve at the tank. The check valve will keep water from flowing back into the tank. A source for the faucet that won't break the bank is J.C. Whitney automotive. Look in their RV/ Camping section.

This may sound primitive

But it works. I have the same problem with the faucet on my Hunter23.5 When I don't use it for a length of time, it empties and does not self prime so I prime it with my mouth as if drinking from a straw he he he! Nicky

Check valve - great suggestion

Thanks Bart, I have ordered a small plastic check valve to connect into the tubing. As soon as I try it out I will post the result.

I repaired it

After reading this thread I decided to give it a closer look. I found a tiny peice of plastic in the non return valve, probably from when they drilled the hole in the tank. Then when I was putting the valve back under the faucet I managed to break it. The material seems to hawe become very brittle and its very thin. So I bought an ordinary copper valve from the ironmongery and a reducer to fit it to the pump and it worked. Nicky

H23 faucet now working

I solved it! I just installed the check valve I ordered on my faucet, and it works like a charm. I just cut into the plastic tubing, inserted the valve and secured it with a clamp on each end. Total cost..about $8.00! Here's the web site of US Plastics that sells the valve. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/category.asp?catalog%5Fname=usplastic&category%5Fname=45&Page=1

Which valve did you buy?

I just looked at your link and was totally confused. Which did you buy and in what size/diameter? Thanks JD

Try this link

Any one of these on this link will work, just get one to fit the ID of your plastic tubing. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=45&product%5Fid=15641
