I have a 1986 H23 without an owner's manual. What I am trying to figure out is that the boom has three lines that run internal in the boom. The center one is for the outhaul - no problem there. That leaves two, one that is short and one long. After talking with a Hunter sales rep, I believe that the short one for for reefing the main - where the line runs through the aft most grommet in the main and back to a point on the boom. To where I don't know? The longer line, might be a topping lift? Can someone tell me how these two lines are to be rigged? Your help is appreciated.

Third line

Unlike it would be a topping lift, since there's no need for that one to go through the boom. More likely the second reef line, which has to be longer than the first because it's higher up.

Boom rigging . . .

Jamie, I have a 240 and I imagine the rigging is about the same. Yes, one line goes to the outhaul, one to the topping lift and back down to an eye toward the aft end of the boom, the other is your reefing ling that goes through the grommet in the mainsail then back down to that same eye at the aft end of the boom. In my case, I used the shorter one for the topping lift and the longer one for the reefing line.

I'd confirm what jesse said..............outhaul, jiffy reefing line and topping lift. However......I recently installed a "boomkicker" and eliminated the topping lift allowing another reefing line in the boom for the 2nd reefing point.

I have a 23 ,1986 the line I have, I use for the toping lift wich comes through the end of the boom over a pulley and is secured to a cleat for adjustability on the under side of the boom about half way along . The second line is for the main sail out haul and is attached to the main sail with a shackle and secured at the mast end of the boom with a locking cam lever , The third line is for the jiffy reefing, Robin How do you raise your mast ?
