This year was my first with a water ballast boat and I just hauled it out of salt water this week. I am wondering if I should "wash out" the tanks before buttoning her up for the winter? I am new at this and would appreciate any advice.
Washing the tank is possible. Fill it with fresh water then let it drain out. That said, unless your boat was in water you would be afraid to swim in I would not worry. Just keep the valve open and let 'er drain.
We sail in fresh water. We put a bottle of bleach in the tank prior to launching each year to prevent things from growing. We don't do anything when the tank is empty. -10º F does that for us
