Is it just me or does everybodys cockpit seat storage area fill with water? Have had to remove seats and reinforce due to where the company installed wood blobking has all cracked away and exposed the wood. the wood is completely rotted out so I rotozipped the core out and filled them with resin. is there a trick or gasket that would keep the rain water from filling these storage areas up?

I only get water in the under seat storage locker on the starboard side of my boat...rarely on the port side. Usually only with a hard rain or when I wash the boat. I've never tried to figure out why. No problems with cracked fiberglass or rotted wood so far.

I'm guessing the water just follows the lid and gets in. If you could find a way to break the water tension, it would probably stay dry and drip outside of the locker instead. Not sure if there's a way to rout a small groove around the edge of the lid outside of the edge of the locker wall, which would do it. A small bead of silicone in the same area might work also.

Port side will fill when on the trailer. Both stay dry when in the water. A tree branch fell on the port side and cracked the seat about 10 years ago. I should've replaced it then but I did a crappy repair job. It just looks crappy, it's maintained integrity and is sealed but my attempt at matching the non-skid was pathetic. I recently noticed similar cracks as you describe on the underside lips of each seat. I am planning to do the same repair and may attempt to redo the tree branch repair. I have noticed several gel coat cracks that will be addressed too.

ok I have the only leaky boat . one thing I went and noticed and want to know if your boats are the same . all the black caps that must be where the seat lip rests on the boat are worn and a few broke. are any of you caps damaged? thinking maybe thats the reason for the leaks, it always collects water after a rain in those storage areas. so if none of your caps are broke then they must be the reason your not leaking ?

Mine are fine. I looked at them today. You may also want to run a small bead of silicone caulk all the way around the under side of the lid near the outer edge. This should help the water to drip off rather than follow the lid up and inside the locker.
