A boat sat on a trailer with the swing keel up, obviously...

How much play is expected on the keel laterally before you consider it an issue ?

There needs to be some play. The pivot pin is not what is supporting the forces that the keel experiences. The keel should "wobble" a little inside the keel trunk and it is the keel leaning against the walls of the keel trunk that dispurses the forces that the keel experiences.

In this diagram, the red "box" represents the keel inside the trunk while the boat is heeled. Hope this helps.

On my old Spirit 23, I had more play in the board than I liked. I made some shims out of sheet Teflon that stopped all the excess slop. They were disks about a foot in diameter and about 1/8" thick, with a hole for the keel pin. Measure carefully
