Still trying to get a trailer for my hunter 22. I've been trying to find out how far below the hull does the keel/centerboard extend when in the retracted position?

Another way to ask this is, how much keel clearance does a proper trailer need to have? Or I could ask it this way too, How high do the bunks on a trailer need to raise the hull above the trailer so that the keel does not touch the trailer?

I know my boat has a 23" draft, per the owners manual, but I'm more interested in an exact number here. I'm guessing that the keel draws 12" below the hull bottom, but If I'm going to buy a $2800 brand new trailer then I want to make sure that my measurements are correct.

Can any of you other H22 owners help?

Thanks,
Kristopher

Generallybunks can be made with at least 6" of adjustability. My Hunter 23 bunks on each side are supported by 3 sections of thick structural pipe. The pipe is positioned vertically via very large set screws.

Kristopher, I will be glad to help, but my boat & trailer are an hour's drive from here. I converted a used trailer into a custom fit carrier for an H22. It may be Thanksgiving before I bring her home. If you will not need the info. sooner, I can post what you need and photos. Larry

From that image, and using the tires as reference, it loks to me that the front and rear bunk surfaces are about 19 or 20 inches above the frame. The middle one is a bit less.

Hunter 22 swing keel

Kristopher, I have a H-22 (1984 model) you guessed right, the keel when retracted extends exactly 12 inches below the hull. I have a center plank on my trailer which is 14 inches below the hull. I bought a used power boat trailer and reconfigured it to a sail boat trailer. There are 2 outboard bunks and 2 inboard bunks, the 2 inboard bunks are 14 inches above the center plank, the outboards-the FWD support is 18 inches high, the second one is 14 inches high, the third support is 15 inches high, the fourth ( aft. support) is 18 inches high. Hope this will help you.Mike
