H22 removing the jib

Hello knowledgeable people. Sadly, I’m not one of you, but perhaps you can provide a remedy. Is it possible to remove the jib from my 2013 H22 without dropping the mast? My wife and I went about it yesterday, but she just didn’t have the strength to assist in bringing down the mast. (That seemed a bit daunting too, and any advice on how to do it would be appreciated) We’re new to this and too often learning by error.

Example? Last week we removed the boat for the season and I had to pull it around a couple of docks to get to the ramp. Naively, I thought that since I was taking it out I should pull up the keel. Mistake. Once we got underway the boat started scurrying across the water like a leaf in the breeze until we crashed into a dock. Fortunately, no real damage one. Next year will be better.

If the 22 has the same jib setup as the 216 - and I think it does - there's no separate headstay to support the mast, nor is there a jib halyard. If so, you do have to drop the mast and leave it down to remove the jib.

I spoke with S. Shaner last night on the phone regarding mast raising and other items. We spoke for a long time. One thing to mention for the smaller boats starting with the current model 22 and down excluding the older 22 swing keel, you can purchase what I call a swivel cam cleat that can be screwed into place below the boom to direct the main halyard thru. You would be able to raise and lower the main with of course a longer halyard from the back of the cockpit. I use to put those on my smaller boats. There are a couple of sizes. To release, flick the mainsail halyard.
