Hello everyone, I would like to know what you guys think about reefing the main using the outhaul (attatching to the first reefing point)? I dont have a reefing line in my boom yet, and would like to be ready to reduce sail when I go out. Please let me know what you think of if you use other methods. Thank you

David,

I had another set of reefing lines put in when I had my sail repaired.
I use the outhaul line as you are speaking, but putting in some reefing lines in is very easy. Just take some line tie knots in both ends so it will stay in the reefing gromets. Then reef early rather than later, if you think you may need it. anything above 15 knots I use the second reefing lines when i get stronger gust and it sails well enough. It also depends on who I am sailing with and their comfort level.
If you look up the Hunter manual it will show the rigging for reefing on the 22.
I have a copy of the manual and it shows the rigging for reefing but it is too big to attach here.
I would be glad to e-mail it if you would like.

Thanks for the reply Scott, I didnt think it would be to big of a deal to attach the outhaul to the gromet untill I can get the appropriate size reefing line for the boom. I figured I would just ask some advice on this. I have downloaded the (pdf) file of the H22 owners manual from this site, and just couldnt make out much from the picture. Thanks again...Oh and I have seen the route and GPS points for this years BEER. Looks like fun hope to make it.
