I would like to know how you raise and lower your mast. I raise and lower mine with the help of my son, but since he may not be around much longer I would like to find a way to raise and lower it by myself. If you have something you use on your H22 I would like to know about it. I have several ideas but have not started making any of them.

Mast stepping systems....

Check the photo/project archives for single handed mast raising/stepping systems. Peter Suah posted the one that I made and am using. I have an H23 and it works very well, should be pretty much the same on an H22.

I'll sketch one out at B.E.E.R.

Steve, The mast on my P21 was getting heavier the older I got so I sat down and drew a Mast Rasing System based on the H23.5 and the Mac26. I was going to make it but SWMBO decided she wanted a larger boat like our old H23 (wing keel). I never had the mast raising parts made and sold the P21 and bought the H23.5. Reminded me at BEER and I'll draw my Idea up real quick and explain what I was going to do. We'll be arriving LATE Friday or around 8 am Sat. See you then. Mike

Slower

Mike, I seem to remember many of the boats heading out around 8:00. I was tied to the dock and had several boats tied outside of me so I was one of the last to leave. You mentioned heading to Perdido instead of Navarre. If you remember last year I was the one that had 5 or 6 boats following me. Some didn't even have a map. That was a big mistake on their part. After we came in the pass from the Gulf I was the one leading the way into the shallow area straight ahead instead of turning right. I didn't get the name "wrong way Gully" for nothing. I should probably stay at the dock and follow you this year. You mentioned picking up your wife which sounds like you won't be solo this year.

You are wrong on the time......or right.

Steve, It's funny. I added the time zone hour difference for my travel, but DIDN'T take it into account when the boats started leaving. I'm SURE it was 9am, cuz I looked at MY watch! Of course my watch was still on Eastern time so it was 8am P'cola time. DOH!!! Anyway, We are still going to try to make it there Friday nite. We'll prep the boat as much as possible before heading to a motel. We are going to a motel so Brenda won't have to spend 4 nights on the boat. And we won't have to compete with 70 boats worth of people taking turn using 1 shower before we begin the cruise. She is going with me this year. She's the reason we went from the P21 to the H23.5. She wanted more room like the H23 (wing keel) We had before the P21. If she doesn't like the boat or 'mini cruising', I'll sell the H23.5 and buy an 18 or 19 foot and go solo again. Hopefully she'll love it. I would go sailing today but I have a Wedding to photograph. My parents are headed down to attend the Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach. We'll all go tomorrow. I hope I get to sail the boat BEFORE BEER! Mike
