need to replace the main on my 1982 H22 and besides the basic luff =23'6", foot = 8'4" dimensions I'm also asked to supply: TACK CUTBACK (DISTANCE FROM BACK OF MAST TO TACK ATTACHMENT) ____________ TACK CUTUP (DISTANCE FROM TOP OF BOOM TO TACK ATTACHMENT) ____________ also, the luff is attached via round slugs (correct?) - what size are these slugs? the foot is a boltrope (correct?) outhaul car? (I dont think so but not sure what it is) -can anyone help with answers on the above items? finally, should I spend the extra 120 buck and get a fully battened main? ;also, I don't have lazy jacks but may want to add since I solo quite often and it can be a chore to drop the main thanks mike

sail measuring

You may have to measure from the back of the mast to the tack attachment on the boom. Same for the boom to tack attachment. These will be fairly small measurements around 1-2" I think. The mast is down on mine right now so I can't measure. I think the slugs are 3/8". Be sure to check the actual slugs being used will fit. I have found some 3/8" slugs that did not fit while others did. It is a tight fit. The foot is a boltrope and mine had a slug attached at the clew as sort of an outhaul car. If it were me I would definitely get the fully battened sail. Along with the better sail shape it will drop into lazy jacks better. I love the lazy jacks on my 25.5 and would add them to my 22 if I wasn't planning to sell it soon. Good luck, Dan

Thanks, Dan , also

what lazy jack system did you install on your 25.5 and how difficult was it? what system would you recommend for the H22 ? mike

Lazy Jacks

The lazy jacks were already installed when I bought the boat. I am not sure what make they are. They might be custom but mine are incorrectly positioned so I will probably install a new system to replace it this year. You might want to consider one that can be pulled out of the way to cover the sail otherwise it can be difficult to get the sail cover on. I have seen somewhere a combination sail cover and lazy jack that I would like to go with if I can find it again.

go to the archives and look under either lazy jacks or h23, you will find pics of the lazy jacks thatMike Epp made for his h23 the work great and he has not much moneyin them, save your money for something else, these are as good as something you would buy from a store, good luck Mike B

Yo Mikey

They are actually very simple. Six bales, three pieces of line, two snaps, two blocks, and a cleat. Best cheap improvement I've made on the boat.

OK, Rick

Your design is well thought out and I'm going to give it a try come springtime (anything that requires more than duct tape, a butterknife and crazy glue to fix up is elaborate to me) nice pic of your boat too! mikey
