Thanks to Floyd and a little tangle with my mooring, I find myself needing to replace the stainless steel cable that is used to raise the centerboard. What is the best way to approach this. Looks like hunter attached the cable to the center board while it was outside the trunk, and threaded it through when they installed the centerboard. If I do not remove the board from the boat(not sure just how to do this either). I will have to cut an opening in the centerboard trunk. Anybody know which would be best. With the board raised, it looks like the cut would have to be somewhere in the front, or with the board down and cut at the rear of the trunk. Or if you have done this before what do you reccomend. Thanks Al Petrie

Hunter 22 dropkeel

Have the same problem, Hunter tells me no drilling, pull the boat and remove the keel. Also a good time to check the condition of the pinion that the keel rotates on. Have fun, it takes two.

Chuck: Thanks, I was afraid that was the answer. Sometimes I miss my San Juan 21, it was a piece of cake to replace the cable on that boat. Didn't have any room though. Al

Centerboard cable Replacement 22

Remove boat from water. Back rear of well, on bottom of boat are two small fiberglass covers with phillips screws, these cover centerboard pin and U-bolts keeping it in boat. Remove screws and covers. Go inside boat.Remove 4 wood screws on table after removing table drop leaf suppport screws. Remove floor boards. Near front of centerboard trunk, on either side of table are two bolts on each side- in small well in lead ballast. Remove nuts and centerboard will drop. Clamp new wire on board ring bolt. Drop string down pulley hole under neath mast in front of table and pull cable in to table well. Replace centerboard, pin, U-bolts, nuts, covers. Attach wire to pulley in centerboard table well.Clamp, hacksaw or cut off excess.Good luck!
