I'm a new owner of a h22. I have only sailer her 4 times this year. I found her to be a light air boat (wind under 10 miles per hour). Kansas winds around Wichita are normaly about 15 to 25 mile per hour. I would like to increase the righting carateristics of my boat. Adding weight to the center board is one option or replacing the center board with a wing keel. Has any one looked into these type of options for righting ability on the h22? Thank you Jim

Reef and sit outboard

Reefing, learning how to use the traveler/mainsheet/vang to control sail shape, and putting the crew on the rail are the usual ways to reduce heel. I would say a new mainsail is the next alternative. A blown out sail increased heel on our 27 footer by 5 degrees, while robbing us of 1-2 knots of speed in moderate winds. Changing the keel is expensive, may have undesired results, and leaves you with a non-standard boat when you want to sell it. David Lady Lillie

The real solution is to .........

Buy a bigger boat! Some call it two foot itus, for me it has always been 5 foot itus. Otherwise, take Daves advise and reef.
