Hello,

I am in need of replacing the furling jib wire luff (headstay) on my 2006 H216. I
do not have the original to measure and I could not find the information
in the owner's manual.

I asked Hunter Customer Support, but it seems after the merger a lot of the archives are "missing."

I would like to know the gauge and exact length of the wire (eye to eye)
luff, not including the furled spindle and the short wire attached to
the mast or the furler drum, just the headstay

Any help is appreciated.

Thank You!

What exactly are you trying to do? The 216 doesn't have a separate headstay, it's the luff wire in the jib. Is the one in the jib damaged?

Hello Chuck,

you are correct the SS luff wire was damaged as well as the sail itself.
At the time I did not think about measuring the length assuming such information would be readily available.
I cut one end to slide it off the sail and discarded the whole thing.
The sail is on its way back from the Sail Care folk in PA.

Usually by now, most saillofts have that information on the vaious boats. Next time, ask in this forum and you will find an answer. Are you sending a request only to Hunter or to Marlow Hunter which is now the name of Hunter?

I actually have great contact at Hunter (Now MH) who has always been kind and able to help me out. This time, he told me he just can't find the info. I am going to try the folks at North Sails next, hopefully they may have an answer:

Yes, the headsail is integrated with the forestay and I'm not sure you can easily replace the forestay without destroying the sail.

We don't have the spec on headstay, but we do have a large stock order in with North Sails right now. If you need a new headsail/forestay combo let us know, we can add one to the stock order. I would guess the price would be about $425 with inventory due here in early to mid-March.

If this is of interest please PM me. I can try to get the headstay spec but I'm not sure they'll give it to me or how helpful it would be.

I won't be at my 216 jib (it's in Maine and I'm not) for 2 weeks but I can get you the eye-to -eye measurement then if that will help. You will have to have a luff wire made up with one eye, feed it through the sail, and have the other eye swaged on.

Sorry for the delay-we only just got the boat dug out in Maine! the forestay built into the jib has a SS thimble at each end for connections. From the inside of the bottom thimble (where the clevis pin sits) to the inside of the upper thimble (same) measures 252 1/2"
Hope this helps

Recently, Phil Herring and company put the downloads of alot information on each boat. Go look under boat information and pull up the Hunter 19 1993-1996 and look under downloads and you will find the owners manual which has the forestay length where measured from and the size wire. That alone will tell you everthing. You will have to scroll down 2/3 of the way to get the information. Suggest looking at that for your boat. Many thanks to phil herring and company for going the extra mile
