Hi Gang! Ok, don't want to belabor this, but am still not sure of the best way to keep this ACP finish clean. Yeah, a good wax would do it, but as even Hunter tells, that makes for slippery. Heard about Woody's Non-slip, but methinks it's not actually non-slip, but is to wax non-slip patterned gel-coat, which we all don't have. There's Island Girl stuff, but I'd be afraid to put on something that's more or less permanent. Any ideas? Thanks.

Woody's

I use Woody's non-slip wax on all surfaces that I might walk on. (cockpit, cabin top, forward deck). It is truly non-slip. It does help prevent stains. Of course, it won't help getting lots of little scratches (the plastic surface is soft). I use a general purpose marine wax on the hull and top-sides. Since I keep my boat on a trailer (under a tree) I keep a tarp on it to keep leaves and pollen off (and to protect against sunlight).

Free trial

I too was pessimistic about Woody's especially the price! Today I called them and explained that I did not have either fiberglass or non skid pattern. The lady who answered was very accommodating and is sending a sample to try out. Incidently, has anyone found someone other than West Marine to buy this? Since they bought out the Boat U.S. stores and eliminated some of the competition, their prices seem to have risen dramatically.

Woody Wax on H216

I have used Woody Wax from West Marine for a couple years now and love it. I use regular car wax on the hull (fresh water sailing only)(actually I now use a really expensive "antique car" cleaner and wax hoping the extra slipperiness will make me go faster...OK, so I'm delusional). I have found that the cost of the Woody wax is a sleeper. I just don't use that much in the long haul...I apply it perhaps twice a summer. A little goes a long way. I am on my first container and have lots left. Because of the modest usage, the cost per season is down in the noise level and far better than the hours and hours I used to spend trying to maintain the finish.

Non skid

My solution, strategic use of PSA non skid and wax the rest. Don't go barefoot and stay on the treads.

Non-skid

Rock Smith! What is PSA Non-skid? Heard good things about Woody Wax and have some on order, but am always interested in alternatives. Also, where could one get it? Thanks.

Non Skid

PSA: Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, or what keeps the non skid stuck. I am of course referring to the material used like tape, cut it, peel off liner and apply to clean surfaces. Done right, it outperforms painted on non skid on USCG and Naval vessels. On my 216, it is around mast, two center positions on the foredeck, two spots I step on when boarding and going forward on the coaming. I could and will use more. Buy 3M Safety-Walk, medium grade white so it does not rip skin from your feet. Buy it from West, or a Home Depot.
