H212 Rudder Repair

While pulling up the ramp yesterday my rudder came loose from its secured position and crashed down hard on the ramp. It took out a quarter-sized chunk on the leading edge of the rudder. The owners manual describes applying Plexus adhesive and then bondo. The instructions are minimal at best. I do have all the materials from the previous owner to do the repair. I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has repaired this Luran S plastic.

I believe the stock rudder is fiberglass instead of Luran (at least mine is,) so repairing it should be similar to a fiberglass repair job.You may want to consider updating/upgrading to an HDPE rudder assembly from IdaSailor.com (I believe they are offered through the Hunter Chandlery as well.) Everyone I have ever talked to that have done this have nothing but great things to say. My rudder has suffered much abuse over the last few years, so I am considering this upgrade after spring sailing winds down.

I thought it kinda looked like fiberglass with foam core. I will check out the replacement you suggested. I will probably need one because I seem to keep finding obstructons that are not on the charts *yks . The keel has a few nicks as well. Thanks for the reply.
