H146 Jib - Where do you store it when you unstep the mast

What do H146 owners do with the jib when they unstep their mast. When I received my new H15 this week I noticed the the mainsail came with a sailbag but the jib didn't. Do people just keep it attached to the roller furler and strapped to the mast when trailering the boat?

Cheers,

I have a cover for my jib and would leave it attached to the mast when trailing. I am a firm believer that the less you unhook the less you'l have to sort out when you put it back together. The jib on small hunters with a roller furling and the headstay in the luff of the jib really don't fold up very well and thats a good reason to leave it strapped to the mast.

The bag that came with my 170 is long enough to store both the main and the jib. That's where they "rested" over the past winter.

Thanks people! I didn't think that you would break down the head stay/furling set up every time the boat was trailered. I envisioned more rolling it up than folding it up. Using the sail cover that came as an optional extra and strap it to the mast when bringing the boat home sounds like the right thing to do.

My reply above was for storing the jib for the entire winter. I keep my 170 on a mooring during the season, but if I were pulling it in and out during the season, I would either leave it attached to the mast in the rolled condition or de attach it and fold it over in in the rolled condition.

When I put my boat in the water last week, I "lost" the jib roll when I stepped the mast due to a wind gust. Quite frankly, I found it to be a PITA to re-roll and even getting my bottom furling roller set up. Now that I've been through that, if it happened again, I think I could do it a lot quicker.

After seeing the attached photo, I decided to have a local sail maker run me up one of these for longer term storage of jib while still attached to the mast. I also slip the Johnson quick release levers and shrouds into the tube. Probably overkill for our weather here and just part of my obsessiveness as a new boat owner. Yesterday, Sunday and 3 weeks into official winter, it was 75 with winds of 8-12 knots. Had a really great sail.
