I installed one
Hello Frank, A Harken unit larger than the 1.5 system will not fit under the deck. I changed my old hood unit (single line) to a Harken 1.5 two years ago, I will tell you what I learned. First of all the Headstay is UNDERSIZED these boats should have a 5/16" headstay, Hunter used the smaller headstay so that they could use the furling unit from th H35,35.5 with an extra extrusion, so 1) the headstay should be changed (short money). The 1.5 system can handle the loads our boats generate because the chart that says boats up to 36 feet assumes a masthead rig, and also does not account for displacement.I consulted with many experts on this, and if you still want the furler below deck , other than replacing with another hood system, the 1.5 is the only one that will fit. What I bought to install the system was 1 headstay, 1 Harken 1.5 system, 1 extrusion kit, and One norseman fitting. The Rigging Loft Inc. cut everything to size, I did the install , and it works excellent. Also I sail in Buzzards bay Ma. we have winds in the afternoon of 18 to 25 knots, and I have furled, and partially furled in winds of 35 to 40 knots. I hope this all makes sense to you. LAS
