Anybody have experience with the base plate of the mast............Finally stepped the mast yesterday on my H356.We were puzzled by the fact there were no thru bolt holes at the base plate. The mast just fits into the step and is secured in place by the struts, stays and weight of mast.I did see a bolt hole fore and aft on the base plate, however we concluded that was for attachments such as blocks etc.My previous boats always had a bolt installed thru the mast and base plate. When we were done everything seemed secure and tight.I just need to tune the rig and attach the boom, etc.

I don't remember seeing any bolts on my 290 Hunter and now my H-36 but pretty sure there are some kind of grooves on the base place and bottom of the mast that locks in the mast so it can't move.
I s that the way it was with your mast base and plate.

without a picture of what you see it's hard to tell-but here's a picture of my 356 mast base. The SS plate with the block mounting holes on each side has a black anodized casting bolted to it with a tongue that sticks up-fore and aft alignment. The mast base has a matching piece with a groove in it so it locks on the base. The two black parts have cross holes that are pinned with a clevis pin. This allows the mast foot to be moved fore and aft and locked to the deck.
