my steering feels loose. It seems like I can turn the wheel a couple inches in different directions without the rudder responding. How do I tighten up the steering??

Easy to do.
Don't wait. In the stern berth remove the overhead cover. The cable tensioners are located on the quadrant. You'll see. Simple too.

Mine was loose too
I had alot of play in my steering also .. When I checked it I was shocked at how close I came to having my cable fall off the pully and the quadrat.. Like Fred said tighten now or have your emergency tiller ready to be deployed..
