A photo essay on my Garhauer mid-boom traveler installation with controls lead back to the cockpit has finaly been posted to the Photo Forum.samlust@monmouth.comH 33 Trinket
Sam, That looks great, really well built. How does she perform now compared with when the traverler was in the compainion way? One thing for sure, you have it rigged for any conditions you might sail in, like the backing plates ... those are really a nice touch and look very strong. Thank you for sharing the pics, look forward to hearing more.
With the old Nicro "I Dare you To try To Adjust This" traveler I rarely attempted adjustments. I had to fight a balky old mechanism which was probably a pain in the butt when it was new, let alone 18 salty years later. Climbing over my wife's and/or guest's legs didn't make it much more fun.In it's current configuration I can fine tune main trim while seated at the wheel where I can watch what's happening as I raise or drop the traveler. The other advantage is that I can drop the main to leeward in a hurry using the traveler instead of easing the sheet. This avoids allowing the main to power up as it bellies out. Very helpful when trying to avoid another boat in a heavy gust, both of which we have lots of on Barnegat Bay.Even if you don't go mid boom, I'd recommend one of these in the orriginal position.
