my 1986 H31 has the batteries located behind the engine on a board over the transmission. is this the correct location? there is what looks to me like a better spot in the access area under the starboard seat. I don't see any reference in the manual. it is not easy to get at or replace batteries in their current location.

I have both house batteries in this location and the starter battery in the starboard cockpit locker well in an inset area. Some boat owners use only the starboard locker area Where Hunter allowed for 2. Arteries in this area. Also have seen battery location in an owner mod under the nav station area. Contact HMT2 on this forum for pics of his nav station location.

My P.O. closed off the foot space under the nav table and put the two house batts there. My single start batt lives where you described .

ON my B323 I removed the lid of the locker at the aft end of the 1/4 berth and replaced it with a piece of plywood. The OEM lid, I used to block off the foot well under the nav station to store bigger pots/pans/PFDs- whetever.

By the stern berth on the port side you have a compartment with a lifting lid. I have seen batteries in there.

Our 1983 model had room for two batteries in the location described in post #2 above. In the "basement" (the area under the starboard cockpit lazerette seat), there was a shelf molded into the hull structure.

One of the previous owners moved those two batteries, added a third, and put all three in battery boxes. The boxes were then strapped down to the floor. The location was the quarter berth, alongside and parallel to the centerline bulkhead. I'll see if I have pics.
