What's the scoop on the H 30 headroom? I went to look at a 1981 shoal draft model today. My tape measured th headroom at 6'1". The spec says it should be 6"4". I'm a tall sailor looking for a tall boat. Are all of the 74-83's the same, or are some models built taller?

Propaganda!

My understanding is that often the manufacturers will state headroom by measuring at the HIGHEST point... in the vintage H30 you're dealing with, I believe the 6'4" headroom is probably achieved under either the main cabin HATCH or under the sliding companion "hatch"..... & so that is what gets printed.... even tho the rest of the cabin headroom isn't that high!....

Sorry to be useless here.

As many here know I did the interior design of the original 'Mk 1' series H-30 in 1973 and I don't remember the headroom at all! The excuse of the 6'4" being under the hatch is plausible though. Nominal for a 'standing-headroom' boat is anything over 6 ft. Sorry for you taller people out there!!! Warren Luhrs is a pretty tall guy but my dad was 5'10 and I am even shorter-- so, like we cared!!! [laugh] JC 2

"They Lied !"

I am damn near a circus midget at 5'6". But my sailing partner is 6'4.5", and my dad's sailing partner is 6'5". Both of the tall guys came aboard one day, and we went below. They were scrunched up in the cabin, and I told them that the Specs said that there was 6'4" of headroom in the cabin. They both looked at me and in unison said "They Lied !" Sometimes it's good to be the midget.
