I am having a survey done on a 1978 H-27 on June 1st. Are there any spcific problems to this year & model that I should have him check, that he may not be aware of. I have read the owners reviews & noted the particular posts that relate to problem issues. especially about the bent keels & rudders. Appreciate any help, Thanks, Joe

mast step, deck, bulkheads

Joe, make sure he really checks the mast step, the deck under the mast for sagging, and bulkheads. I was seriously considering a 1977 27 when the broker showing me the boat noticed the sagging under the mast. His research turned up that this was a common problem in the pre-1980 27s. As I recall, there was a lot of gelcoat cracking around the base of the mast. He advised me to pass on it and I did. You should be able to check this out before the surveyor sees the boat, amybe saving you the cost of a survey. As a point of reference, a friend just sold his 1980 Hunter 27 (used a broker)with roller furling, diesel, wheel, bimini and new interior cushion for $9k. The boat was a fun to sail and in very good shape.Good Luck.

Check keel attachment

I HEARD that some late 70's H27's had their keels recessed into the hull, and as a consequence the beams under the cabin sole had to be notched, resulting in potential rot (if the keelbolts leaked) and weakening the beams. Don't know if it's true, but worth checking out. Good luck--a good survey can be your best friend!
