I have 79 hunter 27 with tiller, I have a kenyon boom. I was thinking of running my mainsail lines aft. The traveler is at the aft end of the boom-should I move it to the cabin top? The kenyon boom has reef/cunniham lines which I have to climb on top of cabin to adjust-which is kind of a pain. Any suggestions?

It will be obvious when you hear the differance

I shut dow the seacocks all the time when I leave the boat. Occasionally I forget to open the engine intake and strt up. It sounds "DRY" there is an echo and a hollow sound associated with running dry.

keep traveler where it is

I would not change the postition of the traveler unless it is really bugging you. You get lots less control on the cabin roof, especially if you go to the block-type mainsheet arrangement like on later 27s. As far as running reefing line and cunningham aft, I would have to add external blocks at the bottom of my mast on my '81, since the 2 blocks that are there are internal, but it is doable and could be pretty convenient. You just have to figure out what to do with all those lines in the cockpit.
