This is our second year with our 98 240 and the first year without the dealer. We keep the boat on a mooring so we only put it in the water once a year, and a year can be a long time when you don't have a good memory!! I would appreciate it if anyone can confirm/help this rigging issue. I don't have an owner's manual, so I don't know if it is answered there: 1. As far as the 2 stays are concerned....the stay that is coming off of the spreader should be attached to the aft turnbuckle and the stay that is coming directly out of the mast should be attached to the forward turnbuckle. Yes or no? 2. Both stays are inside the life lines... Thanks to all that help.

Yes on position of the "stays". Put both over

(outside)the life lines.

Be carefull! I'm not sure on the 240 but on my

95 H26 the upper mast shrould line is outside the lifeline and on the forward chainplate u-bolt and the lower shrould is inside the lifeline and attaches to the rear chainplate u-bolt. I would check with a owners manual or be sure that the answer comes from a manual. To be wrong could result in a demasting. Ray

Maxwell, Just rigged one Friday. The stays that go up through the spreaders are connected aft and outside the lifelines. The lowers are connected forward and inside the lifelines. It would be hard to reverse them because the lower stays are a bit short for the aft position. I would still check your manual. I have been known to be wrong. Happy Huntering, r.w.landau

Checked the owner's manual

Page 47 A of owners manual shows the stay from the spreader attached to the aft turnbuckle and the shorter one from the mast on the forward turbuckle. It shows nothing about the relationship to the lifeline, but I have placed the lower stay inside of it on one occasion and on my boat it was pusing the lifeline laterally and chaffing it. Also be sure to run the lower stay behind (under) the line that runs from the spreader back down to the mast. If you like, I can scan this page from the owners manuel and email it to you.

Thank you all....

Completed stepping the mast yesterday, and when seeing the rig up, realized that if I had screwed something up, it would have been noticeable. My assumptions were correct about the placement of the stays, but was glad I waited and got confirmation from someone else. Even though I have heard from more than one person that the owner's manual is useless, my first call this morning was to Hunter to get a copy of it.
