Anyone mounted one of those Solar Powered vent fans on their v berth hatch on a 23? If so, what size, does it work, loudness etc. It sure gets warm up there for sleeping even with the hatch open. Just wondering if they move enough air to do any good for sleeping?

I also installed on of these in the forward hatch of our 23. It's very quiet, but as Mark mentioned, it doesn't move a whole lot of air and is best for keeping the cabin fresh. Unless the night is dead quiet with no breeze at all, I would bet that one of those canvas wind scoop things would do more good. No wind? Mark's got the answer there, too! Be cool... any AC power available?
Dan: If you have AC power available, try a couple of those clip on fans. You can get them at Home Depot for about $7-8. If you need a DC fan there is nothing better than the Hella Turbo (not cheap) they run off a DC plug and consume a small amount of and put out a good breeze.

I understand the need for ventialtion on the H-23 but I don't think I would ever cut a hole in my hatch. Those things are too hard to find as a replacement part.

You'll get a lot more air below than you ever would with a fan, and you won't use any of your precious electrity either. Peter H23 "Raven"

Hatches are rebuildable.
Dave: I would not worry about cutting a hole in the hatch. You can send them back to the Mfg. for rebuilding.

Nicro Vent does OK
I installed a Nicro solar powered vent as a replacement for the passive vent installed by previous owner. My boat is under refitting and I wanted to keep the air flowing to reduce the mildew and dampness in the v-berth. I haven't slept on the boat yet but the vent works well and can be sealed by pushing the inner housing up into the vent body. Nice CE built unit. Not noisy and was under $100. I believe it pushes about 1000 cu ft / hr
