I know this subject has probably been beat to death on this sit, so here goes again!: i just crawled under my H-22 to look at the keel before I haul her to the coast for a test run. The keel itself has some fiberglass wear and it sits on the trailer loosely so I'm sure it bounces some when it is being transported. I put a piece of foam under the keel where it sits on the trailer so that may correct that problem. While under the boat, I tried to see what condition the keel pin was in. I can barely see it. It doesn't appear to be rusted, but it doesn't look like stainless steel either. There may be some wear on the fiberglass arond the pin, but unless i drop the whole assembly, I guess I won't know. How big of a job is this? I see two brackets next to the keel that I assume are the access to the pin. What do you look for as far as wear/corrosion before you undertake this project, or should I forget it and go sailing?

Drop keel play

I have owned my H22 for 4 years. There has always been a good bit of lateral play (side to side) of the keel. I does worry me, and some day I will remove those 2 brackets that hold the keel pin someday and investigate. Sorry that I can't offer much mpre than that. For what it it worth... I sail it. My thoughts on removing and inspecting are more related to perf than to structutural integrity. I am confident it will hold up fine, but that much slop (side to side) must hinder the up wind perf (I would think). Jim D
