I primarily race against Thistles. I found I could point as high as a Thistle if I ran the jib really tight. Also, if I didn't run the jib this tight when beating, the top jib telltale would break up. Well, this just didn't FEEL right to me...I didn't like the lay of the sails. Seemed the jib was too tight and the slot too narrow.I did some VMG studies and found I had a better VMG if I loosened the jib some and pointed down some. Plus, I liked the lay of the sails a lot more. But, the top telltale broke up. So I move my jib blocks outboard about 5 inches as can be seen in the photo. Now my top jib telltale shows a laminar flow.
