Our Hunter 2002 356 has a few surface cracks in the gel on the starboard gunwale (basically
the area where we generally board her). I am very proficient at making the repair, but my question; is there a filler material that is Exact Match coloration? And if so, who is the supplier and or product name or pt #. And once the crack is exposed, filled and sanded (blended into surrounding parent material)...will the repair area polish to an undetectable repair? Over the years I have flawlessly repaired too many autos -metal and fiberglass -fabrication to list here...so my only concern is the Hunter original gel coat color match. Anyone with cracks such as this and repair experience your comments would be appreciated.

Contact the folks at SBO. They sell the color match products from Spectrum. It is based on the year of your boat.

I've been filling in little spider cracks over the years when I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING better to do with my time.

I lightly groove out the cracks with a Dremel and then fill them with pure white gel coat from a local supplier here in Vancouver. Finished coat is very light, no more than about 1/16" max. If the crack is still moving, I'll drill a small hole about 1/8" deep at each end to remove the stress raiser.

I sort of took it for granted that the Hunter colour was a pure white and any white gel coat would match. I finish with 1500 grit and then Meguiar's Colour Restorer for a polish. The results are completely blended to the surroundings but remember this is very small work and purely cosmetic. For anything more serious, check under the search menu here.
