Only know of couples who owned them

While cruising the Caribbean we met 3 couples who owned Sailcruiser 54s. They all liked them very much. One couple had the larger one and when it waas lost in a hurricane they bought a new 54 and still cruise it. Be prepared to motor quite a bit but with 13 or 15 knots of wind on the beam you should move nicely at around 7.5 knots. It really depends what you are wanting in a boat. The Sailcruiser is a good boat for someone who wants to use the motor to get somewhere but also wants to purely sail when the wind is cooperating. We have the Sailmaster 50. I guess you could say it was a performance motorsailor. Like it a lot. Gulfstars are very well made boats. Our website is below

Gulfstar motor sailot

We have the 53 motor sailor and have raised seven children on it. Have done a lot of cruising in the Keys and the Bahams and find that for our purposes it sails well and motors equally as well. We are currently undergoing a refit in preparation for retirement but wouldn't consider any other craft or making any changes other than updating that which is already on board. There has never been a point when we ever felt that the vessel was anything but safe and comfortable. Enjoy. PJ

gs 54 motorsailor

George; Did you ever buy a GS 54? We bought one last spring and had a great summer with it. Ours was in immaculate condition, and we sailed and motored all over New England. I found that it sailed great with wind abaft the beam, but that it had a varying amount of leeway depending upon wind strength and direction forward of the beam. Under power, it gave between 7 and 8 knots at cruise rpm, and yielded approx 2 km/gal. Regards, Randy Hitchcock Seaschelle
