yes

That is a message the browswer gives you if the certificet isn't registered. It is a government website and is safe. You will be prompted several times (one for each control on the page...about 5 or 6).

Thanks

I knew u would turn up something, Thanks. If im reading this right, its only about 2.7 mph now at its worst spots.Thats still significant on a long trip. When we got caught up in it it was running at least 5 knots as a guess. The vid clips i sent you from offhsore looked like it was about 4 or 5 knots just by looking at the bubbles. If for some reason you go to say, Appalachacola and head south, u wont hit it. when we were coming back from Tampa bay area , we hit it hard. wind was also dead on our nose for a few days. We tried tacking and were moving about 6.5 to 7 kts steering 45 degrees off our intended course, and were actually losing ground. We motored for what i think was 2 or 3 days with the sails up, on our rhumb line and were only making about 1.25 to 1.5 kts to the good. Have plenty of diesel. if you can get to work with the current, it will be a fast ride. This still doesnt make me any less jealous. Tony B P.S., i wonder if they transmit this data over SSB like they do with the regular forecast charts. Then I'll talk u into a HAM liscense, which they are just about giving away now, and you can get on shiptrak.org so we can follow you.

Chart

notice that the scale is in meters per second, not knots. I don't know if you did the math to come up with the 2.7 or mis-read it. I was too lazy to do the math :)

hmmmm

I came up with 2.7 also. There has to be something wrong there. No way is the Gulf stream only 2.7 knots. Anybody got a clue?

Something is missing

We are missing something here. We need an explanation of the chart. I see negative numbers, that, one could reason, would be a reverse flow, but why negative numbers when they have arrows? At times the Gulf LOOP can slow down, it is everchanging. The loop is created by warmer water flowing into the gulf, and at this time of year, the loop would be much smaller and also possibly bucking the tidal flow into the Gulf. Hell, im just guessing, but it sounds good, LOL. When i took those video clips out at that platform, i think i was about 60 to 65 miles south of the mouth of the Ms. river. Ill have to check my old time sheets to figure where i was. Anyway, the current was hauling ass for the full 2 weeks i was there, except for 1 day it slowed down to a crawl , then picked up speed again. Some of the ststic charts i found on the internet show it as coming way west and way north as a continuous clockwise loop with an Eddy off the west coast of Florida in an irregular shape. The guys on the platform said its usually always screaming on through, though. Wish i had the time to research it for you. You are a puter guy, just hack into the system and ask to speak to Bubba the Forecast guy.
