All you gulf coast guys who are going to be out Memorial Day and the following week or ten days, how bout posting up boat name and description so maybe we can recognize each other should we pass, other than in the night. My trip has dwindled from four down to two boats, but certainly still heading out next weekend. Should be at Ship Isand on Sun. night, Pensacola by Tuesday afternoon, Port St.Joe Thursday. I will be on a Seidelman 37, named Candida. White with beige trim. As far as I know at this time will be accompanied by a mid 80's Catalina 30. If your going to be out and about please post up so I will know who to watch for. I know many of your faces, but almost none of your boats.

I'm going to Cat Island

Leaving out Sat morning plan on staying two nights with wife and youngest daughter. I'm in a Catalina22. S/V LooseDiamond. If I get my bottom paint on (been trailering) she will remain in my new slip at Long Beach Harbor! Good luck to you. I don't post much but read every day.

Since your from Hattiesburg, thought I might pass on a little info. in case you haven't been down this way since Katrina. Smugglers Cove, at Cat Island is basically gone. You might get up in there with a 22' swing keel boat, not sure. But most of the finger that stuck out and protected you is mostly no longer there. I haven't tried to get up in there with my 4'6" draft. I now usually anchor up on the north side of the island, or go over to Ship Island. I will give you a call on VHF Sunday evening when we get over that way.

i goe by there all the time but with a 10 ft draft, im kinda restricted to the ICW. I will look for you guys and toot the horn. Should be passing through there over the week end headed back to Mobile

Thanks, Nice and Easy!

I've only been sailing for 2 yrs. this Nov. All out of Long Beach, mostly to Cat. I had no knowledge pre-Katrina, only post. Power boated out of Pascagoula to Horn and rigs beyond for many years. That swing keel does come in handy! I can get waist deep to anchor and wade in. The north side of the cove seems to be a little deeper going in. Less so South side. There were many boats out there last year, but as you said, most were larger and anchored so far West that they were essentially not in the 'cove'. Made about 6 trips last year, two solo in November. Had it to myself then! Already done two overnights this year. Living and learning, but loving it. As an aside, the people and info here have been a great help. Thanks, all!

Are you gonna get as far south as Tampa? Being in the car business, I'll probably have to work over the holiday weekend, But if you get close, let me know... if I can't get the boat out, I'll drive. Sorry you're down to two boats. For me, the more the merrier. If you come this far, whether Tampa, St Pete or Clearwater or even Tarpon Springs, I'll show up- just let me know when and where!! I'll bring two full chests (the Admiral and an ice chest), just tell what your preferred adult beverage is. Just reread your original invitation- I don't have alot of sailing stories (other than the stupid things I've done!), but by the holiday, I'll can be ready to convince you I designed the Titanic, Navigated in the America's Cup, Solo circumnavigated in a kayak (with pictures of course), and am blood related to Davy Jones himself. Enjoy the trip- I'm jealous. cup

Cat or Ship

I'll be out there around Cat or Ship in my H310 "Miss Jenna" Sunday and may overnight at Smugglers Cove. I've anchored in there since Katrina and managed to get snugged in with my 4' draft. Just returned from a 2 week cruise to Panama City and back. It was great except for the last night at Billy Goat Hole at the east end of Dauphin. The wind kicked up from the north at about 20 and she sailed right off her anchor. Woke up just in time to prevent an unintended docking. Gotta do something about that anchor sailing.... Tom
