I just installed a starting battery on my Catalina 30. The system seems to work great. The question I have is the Guest charger is set up to charge two batteries but which two should I charge? It seems to me that they should go on the starting battery and the house two battery bank. However, the charger only puts out 10 amps and 5 amps doesn't seem like enough to charge two 27s. Any thoughts on a better hookup. Thanks, Sean

Sean The two outputs are for the two battery "banks." Your two house batteries should be wired in parallel, making one house "bank." So, one set of charger leads goes to the house bank and the other to the starting batery bank (which consists of just one battery). The 10 amp output is all you're gonna get if it's a 10 amp charger, and no wiring will ever get more out of it than they made it to do. If you leave your boat plugged in all the time then how much amperage do you get in a week? How much draw down is there on your system when you're unplugged? You need to do an energy budget if you haven't already. You should also do some research to determine if your battery charger is a smart charger. If it isn't, it's just going to fry your batteries. Check the West Marine Advisor or any other reference source on quality battery charging. Stu

Thanks for the input. I have the system set up the way you suggested and I think it will work out perfectly. I do have a smart system so the batteries won't get fried. I think the starting battery will be fully charged most of the time, so I wonder if the 10 amps will go into the house bank. I leave my Norcold on all the time when at the moorage. Gotta have a cold brewski you know. Thanks.
